This is a scrapped project. That means that it is unfinished, and I will not be working on it any longer.

Why? Because it became a nightmare to work on.

It started as an entry for metroidvania month- I had little experience with 3D modeling, and next to no experience with level design. Despite that, I still wanted to make a 3D metroidvania.

That was- lets say- a bit beyond my skill level, at the time. Mind you, this was two or three months ago.

I realized I needed to lower the scope of the project, so I did. I decided to just make a normal 3D platformer.

3D level design is very intimidating.

I ended up lowering the scope once again. And, by lowering, I mean that I tried doing a side-step. Move it to more of a collectathon.

3D level design is very intimidating.

At this point, I had scrapped the project almost entirely, and thought of a new one. However, I had already modeled Celia and made animations for her, so I reused her model and animations for this 'next' project- even though it was the same godot file.

The final product was to be a free roam game, where you walk around, explore, find secrets, and talk to people.

While that was more within my ability, I shifted the goalposts too much. I kept adding and adding. There was originally only going to be one island, not four.

As time went by, my skills improved- and that's a good thing.

But I had only two or three months of 3D modeling experience when I started this project, and it's been three months since then.

My skills have gotten considerably better since I started. I'm able to look at Celia's model, and realize just how horribly I did certain parts. I could do way better nowadays, but I can't be bothered.

All in all, this project was one of my longest, hardest, and most stressful. It was hurdle after hurdle after hurdle after hurdle. I'm tired of jumping.

On a more positive note, I feel like this is one of my most cohesive games, even if it's not really a game per se.

I'm largely talking about the music. When you aren't using pre-made assets or asset store stuff, the end product is more cohesive. The music was made for this game. The islands were made for this game.

Idk, just something I like about it. I'm excited to make my next game- with code, art, and music all done by yours truly.

And with that, I bid you adieu. Safe travels, friend.
